CSA Catapult to become the Semiconductor Catapult under the AI Hardware Plan

The Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult announced it will transition to become the Semiconductor Catapult, following publication of the UK Government''s AI Hardware Plan, reflecting an expanded remit supporting AI infrastructure deployment.

Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult — Newport, Wales — 9 June 2026

CSA Catapult said the change addresses a gap in UK AI infrastructure capability: translating strong UK research and chip design into deployable, real-world systems.

As the Semiconductor Catapult, the organisation will focus research and development on energy-efficient, deployable systems for AI data centres and industrial applications, aiming to reduce commercial and technical risk for companies moving from prototype to market. It will also work to help start-ups and businesses access UK-based semiconductor supply chains.

The Catapult operates across sites in South Wales, Bristol, Scotland and Durham, and has been a key organisation supporting the UK''s compound semiconductor clusters.
