Department for Science, Innovation and Technology — United Kingdom — 2 September 2026
The Government published the completed version of its 2026 Semiconductor Sector Study on 2 September 2026, adding the remaining chapters and appendices to the report first issued in June.
The study identifies 703 semiconductor companies in the UK: 295 dedicated semiconductor businesses and 408 diversified businesses with semiconductor activity. It reports around 16,350 people directly employed in 2025, and estimates that the sector supports up to 32,550 jobs across the wider economy.
Among dedicated companies, the study estimates £10.6 billion of revenue in 2025 and £7.5 billion of gross value added.
These are the figures behind much of the sector data published on this site, including our industry overview, company landscape and cluster analysis. Attribution is to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
