The Innovate UK investment targets areas where the UK semiconductor sector is considered strongest, aiming to improve global competitiveness and support projected sector growth of 75 per cent by 2030.

Beneficiary companies include Cambridge-based Paragraf Limited, which develops energy-efficient semiconductor devices using graphene technology intended to improve battery life in phones, cars, aircraft and defence systems.

The Government framed the fund as part of its Plan for Change and its wider Digital and Technologies Sector Plan under the Industrial Strategy, following earlier commitments to semiconductor research and development and start-up support including the ChipStart UK incubator.
