IQE, headquartered in Cardiff, grows epitaxial wafers: the engineered compound semiconductor and silicon layers on which customers build lasers, RF chips, photodetectors and power devices. It supplies gallium arsenide, indium phosphide and gallium nitride epiwafers, and substrates, from seven sites across three continents, including UK facilities in South Wales. Its products support wireless, optical communications, 3D sensing, displays and power electronics. In 2026 it announced a supply agreement for quantum dot laser epiwafers. It is a listed company.
