Company profile

Picocom

Bristol fabless company designing Open RAN baseband system-on-chips for 4G and 5G small cells.

Company overview

Picocom is a fabless semiconductor company headquartered in Bristol, designing baseband system-on-chips for Open RAN wireless infrastructure. Its PC802 and PC805 devices implement the physical layer for 4G and 5G small cells and radio units, and are designed for carrier-grade deployment in both terrestrial networks and satellite or non-terrestrial systems. Alongside the silicon, the company develops the associated software and reference designs that equipment makers need to bring small-cell products to market. Founded in 2018, Picocom has built its engineering base in Bristol, from where it coordinates design, product development and customer support for network-equipment manufacturers worldwide. Its chips are designed to open interfaces, supporting the disaggregated approach to radio-access-network equipment promoted by the O-RAN movement.
