lowRISC
Cambridge not-for-profit developing open-source silicon IP, including the OpenTitan root of trust and Ibex RISC-V core.
Company overview
lowRISC is a Cambridge-based community interest company developing production-quality open-source silicon. Its best-known projects include OpenTitan, an open-source security root-of-trust design, and Ibex, a 32-bit RISC-V processor core used in research and commercial chips. Alongside maintaining these designs, lowRISC provides silicon-engineering consultancy covering architecture, RTL design, verification, physical design and tape-out, helping organisations take open-source hardware from specification to manufactured silicon. The organisation grew out of the University of Cambridge's computer laboratory and operates as a not-for-profit, with its engineering team based on Hills Road in Cambridge. Its collaborative development model, in which designs, verification environments and documentation are published openly, has made it a reference point for open-source silicon engineering in the UK and internationally.
