Company profile

Nu Quantum

Cambridge company building photonic integrated circuit-based hardware, including optical switching and photon detection, to connect quantum processors into networks.

Company overview

Nu Quantum is developing quantum networking technology designed to enable the scaling of quantum computers. A 2018 spin-out from the University of Cambridge's Cavendish Laboratory, the company is building what it terms the 'Entanglement Fabric'. This is a modular, scalable architecture that interconnects separate quantum processors to create more powerful, fault-tolerant systems. The company's hardware is based on photonics and includes qubit-photon interfaces (QPIs) that connect to various qubit modalities, as well as optical switching and detection technology. This networking hardware is built on photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Nu Quantum's approach aims to provide a hardware abstraction layer for developing qubit-agnostic software. The company has its headquarters and research laboratories in Cambridge, UK, and an office in the US.
