Company overview
Porotech is a semiconductor technology company spun out from the University of Cambridge in 2018. The company initially focused on developing a new class of porous Gallium Nitride (GaN) material, trademarked PoroGaN®. This led to the creation of its DynamicPixelTuning® (DPT®) technology for micro-LEDs, which enables a single pixel to emit any visible colour. More recently, Porotech has expanded its focus to address data transmission bottlenecks in AI and datacentre applications. It is developing a full-stack optical I/O platform that integrates transmitters, receivers, drive electronics, and advanced packaging. This platform aims to replace conventional copper interconnects with high-density optical solutions, improving bandwidth and energy efficiency. The company has its headquarters, including a lab and cleanroom, in Cambridge, UK, with additional sites in Taiwan and the USA. It operates as a trading name for Poro Technologies Ltd.
